Goal and objectives of the project

Determining the  insect diversity of insect resources in relation to use value in the Northwest region, proposing solutions for these development, exploitation and sustainable utilization.

Main results

Theoretical results:
•    Initially determination of  the diversity of insect species in Northwest Vietnam.
•    New insect species (Zaglyptogastra vietnamica Long, 2015) was discovered in the family Braconidae family and new nine insect species (Hymenoptera) were recorded in the study region.
•    A set of criteria on taxon of the insect resource groups was established to identify eight insect groups and the species composition for each group in the Northwest region.
•    A database for each insect species in the Northwest region.
•    New method was built to estimate three insects belonging to the group for food value: Brihaspa atrostigmella Moore, bamboo worm Hampson Omphisa fuscidentalis Hampson and Tessaratoma papillossa in Son La.
•    To propose some solutions for rational utilization and sustainable development for insect groups insects in Northwest Vietnam.
Applied results:
•    A set of criteria for taxon on insects that may be a reference to the identification of insect species in other areas can be used as the basis to construct a criteria for classification of functional groups of insects in Vietnam.
•    New method to estimate insect resources in Son La can be a reference to calculate the insect resources through the their host, parasite and chain levels food; on the basis of this approach can improve the method for calculating an insect resource on a specific area.
•    Solutions as rational utilization and sustainable development of the insect resources in Northwest Vietnam will be the scientific basis and practical contribution to maintain the insect diversity in the Northwest Vietnam.

Novelty and actuality and scientific meaningfulness of the results

•    Firstly the updated data on the insect diversity was provided in Northwest Vietnam.
•    One new species was recorded and named as Zaglyptogastra vietnamica Long, 2015 in the family Braconidae family and recorded nine new insects in Northwest Vietnam.
•    Firstly,  a set of criteria on the classification of the insect groups was built and applied to identify eight insect groups in Northwest Vietnam.
•    Firstly new method was estimated and has successfully applied to calculate the three insects used as food including Brihaspa atrostigmella Moore, Omphisa fuscidentalis Hampson and Tessaratoma papillossa Drury in Son La.
•    Proposed solutions on rational utilization and sustainable development for the four insect groups including food group, drugs and insect ecology.
