Goal and objectives of the project
  • Research on the design and fabrication of energy saving, high qualified agricultủal LED lamps (LED NN) and facilities (LED racks and LED chambers) for plant tissues cultivation and plantlets propagation.
  • Research on the applications of LED NN to cultivate, muliplicate plantlets in vitro and control plants flowering for improvement of plantlets quality, reduction of production cost, serving Tay Nguyen region’s agriculture development”.
Main results
  • Fundamental research results:

+    New principles were developed and used to design and fabricate LED NN lamps and facilities suitable for plant tissue cultivation of 07 plant species of Tay Nguyen region.
+    Qualitative and quantative studies of the effects of LED lighting quality (optical spectrum, photosyntesic radiation…) on the  growing of plantlets cultivated in vitro of 07 Tay Nguyen plant species: (1) Medical plants: Codonopsis sp, Anoectochilus roxburghii; (2) Flowering and fruit plants:  Chrysanthemum sp, Gerbera jamesonii Bolus, Anthurium spp, Fragaria spp; and (3) Industrial plants: Coffee have been implemented. The implementation results show that the quality of these plant species cultivated under LED NN lighting is improved in comparison with fluorescent lamps in all aspects of bio-agricultural indicators such as, morphological, physiological ones, growing  rate and etc....
+    A new method using CNT-based solutions for studying the effects of  MWCNTs on the plants growth in vitro under illumination of LED ligting sources was suggsested for investigation.
+    A new method using monochromatic LED lamps for “Night-Break” to control the fowering of Chrysanthemum sp was developed.

  • Applied research results:

+    Technologies for production of LED lamps used in agriculture, named LED NN, have been succesfully developed.  The main specifications of LED NN lamps such as electro-optotical paramerters, electrical saffty of the lLED NN lamps were measured by independent testing laboratories at Center for High Technology Development (CHTD), Institute of Material Science (IMS), Dien Quang Lamps Join-stock Company and Quality Testing & Certification Center-1 (QUATEST-1).
+    Racks equipped with LED NN lamps and the controleable illumination/dark period (phoperiod) were succesfully designed and fabricated for plant tissue cultivation and plantlets production in vitro, and transfered to the Institute of Biology and Institute of Agri-Forest Science in Tay Nguyen.
+    Chambers with flexible LED lighting systems (LED-PLS) of variable optical wavelength, variable high homogenious lighting flux, controleable temperature, humidity, CO2 concentration and illumination/dark period (phoperiod) for plant tissue cultivation and plantlets production in vitro were succesfully designed and fabricated, and transfered to the Institute of Biology and Institute of Science in Tay Nguyen.
+    Applied research on the application of LED NN lamps for plant tissues cultivation and plantlets production of (1) Medical plants: Codonopsis sp, Anoectochilus roxburghii; (2) Flowering and fruit plants:  Chrysanthemum sp, Gerbera jamesonii Bolus, Anthurium spp, Fragaria spp; and (3) Industrial plants: Coffee Arabica. The results of plantlets cultivated at the greenhouses in  Lam Dong and Dak Lak provinces show that ≥ 90% plantlets have well and heathly growed.
+    The research results show that the application of LED lighting will  and procedures on plant tissue and plantlets production were developed for 07 mentioned above plants
+    The primary estimation shows that replacement of fluorescent lamps by LED NN lamps can save ~ 50% electricity consumption.

  • Application of the new developed method using monochromatic LED lamps to replace the incandescent and fluorescent lamps for “Night-Break” to control the fowering of Chrysanthemum sp  resulted the following issues:

+    Monochromatic LED lighting sources with the wavelenght of 630, 660 and 700 nm and an apropriate illumiation time for “night-break” of about 33 min. have been found suitable for controlling the flowering of  Chrysanthemum sp.
+    The primary estimation shows the use of monochromatic LED lighting sources to controlling the Chrysanthemum sp  flowering can save at least ~26 times of electricity consumption in comparison with the use of traditional lamps

Research region

Dien Quang Lamps Join-Stock Company accepted to manufacture LED NN. Horticultural private company and Centers  in Tay Nguyen region as well as in the whole country are suggested to apply the project resuls.
