Project’s list Annual monitoring the sea environment
Project leader’s name Dr. Vu Tuan Anh
Project duration 01/01/2015 - 01/01/2015
Project’s budget 500 millions Vietnam Dong
Classify Bad
Goal and objectives of the project
  • Determine the status of the environmental factors at five coastal stations are Nha Trang, Phan Thiet, Ganh Rai, Đinh An and Rach Gia at period in March - April and period in August –September and one open ses sation is Phu Quy at period in March - April
  • Preliminary assessment of the environmental quality of the areas from 2011 to 2015.
Main results

Theorerical results: To produce the accurate, synchronous, and continuous data of the environmental factors at the fixed stations. These data can serve in the purposes as study, teaching, and warning to the environment.

Applied results: the collected data were the parameters in annual national environmental state report.

The analytical results in 2015 showed:

Oils & grease in seawater at all stations exceeded the limit value of aquaculture waters, aquatic conservation of in National technical regulation on marine water quality (QCVN 10: 2014 / BTNM).

Most of the values of phosphate and Fe in coastal stations were approximately or exceeded the limit values of aquaculture waters, aquatic conservation in QCVN 10: 2014 / BTNM

The water quality of coastal waters in southern Vietnam in April was better than in August.

Nha Trang, Phan Thiet stations generally had good environmental quality. Most of the values of parameters were less than the limit values of the QCVN 10: 2014 / BTNM

Environmental quality of Đinh An, Rach Gia stations were remarkable with many parameters exceeded the limit values.

Oils & grease in sediment at 5 coastal stations exceeded limit values of the QCVN 43: 2012 / BTNMT. Lindan in pesticide, that exceeds the limit value of the QCVN 43: 2012 / BTNMT tends to increase the concentration and distribution (from 2 stations in April to 5 stations in August)

For phytoplankton, in April had recorded 230 species and 184 species in August. In particular, in April recorded 35 species, August 30 micro algae blooms potentially harmful.

For the phytoplankton, there were 230 species in April and 184 species August recorded. In particular, in April recorded 35 species, and in August recorded 30 species of the microalgae capable harmful blooms

For the zooplankton, there were 160 species in April and 128 species in August recorded.

Total of 67 taxa in April and 68 taxa of benthos in August were identified. Environmental quality assessment based on diversity index of benthic communities living in the ecosystem of muddy or sandy bottoms (Heip, 1980; Simboura & Zenetos) showed that the quality of the environment in Rach Gia and Dinh An stations were in high pollution levels. The environmental at Phan Thiet, Nha Trang stations from mild pollution to good quality.

There is no clear trend for variation of chemical and ecological factors, phytoplankton, zooplankton, benthic at the stations during the 2011 - 2015.

Novelty and actuality and scientific meaningfulness of the results

to extend the data at the fixed stations to the time

Products of the project

Technological products (describe in details, technical characteristics, place):

Two reports and data files (of 2 survey in April and August, 2015) containing information of factors about marine meteorology, hydrology, dynamics, chemistry, and biology (phytoplantonk, zooplantonk and benthos) at five coastal stations and one open sea station
One summarization report containing the comments of dada, warming and explanations about the over limit value of the environmental fators

Recommendations

It is necessary to increase the number of monitoring stations anually following in the development of coastal industrial zones and export proccessing zones.
