Project's information

Project's title Establishing characteristicdata of the reference substances from marine organisms of the North-East area of Vietnamese sea
Research hosting institution Institute of Marine Biochemistry (IMBC)
Project’s list Belonging to Focal Point Project “Search of potential bioactive compounds from marine medicinal materials in the North of Vietnam’s East Sea’’
Project leader’s name Dr. Nguyen Van Thanh
Project duration 01/01/2013 - 01/01/2015
Project’s budget 4150 milion VND
Classify Excellent
Goal and objectives of the project
  • Found 8 reference substances from the soft corals, echinoderms, sponges, marine microorganisms and established their characteristic data.
  • Development of chromatographic fingerprint for crude extracts of marine organisms.
Main results

Theoretical results:

  • The high performance liquid chromatographic methods for analysing crude extracts of 10 soft coral species, 10 sponge spiecies, 10 marine microorganisms and 10 echinoderms were examined and optimized.
  • The process for isolation and purification of 9 reference substances from marine organisms were performed. The purity of all reference substances are over 98% and their weight are more than 30 mg.
  • The characteristic data of 9 reference substances were established, including the state, optical rotation, melting point, mass spectrum data, nuclear magnetic resonance spectra data. The purity of all reference substances were determined by HPLC method. All the compounds were evaluated by National institute of drug quality control.
  • The methods used to verify the identity of chemical reference substances and used to determine their purity were proposed.

Applied results:

  • The fingerprint chromatogramswereestablishedfor the quality evaluation of marine organism samples by high performance liquid chromatography.
  • The reference substances were usedas a reference standards to quantify the bioactive compounds in the MeOH extracts of marine organisms by hplc methods.
Novelty and actuality and scientific meaningfulness of the results
  • It was the first time for establishing 9 reference substances from Vietnamese marine organisms and using them as a reference standards to quantify the bioactive compounds in the MeOH extracts of marine organisms by HPLC methods.
  • The fingerprint chromatograms of some marine organismswereestablishedforthe first time.
Products of the project

Technological products (describe in details: technical characteristics, place): 9 reference substances from marine organisms were deposited in theInstitute of Marine Biochemistry – VAST.
Other products (if applicable): 9 processes for isolating and purifying 9 reference substances from marine organisms, 05 national paper, the fingerprint chromatograms data of marine medicinal materials (soft corals, sponges and echinoderms), were kept in IMBC. Have trained 01 Master.

Research region

Institute of Marine Biochemistry, National institute of drug quality control.

Recommendations

We propose further studying to establish morereference substances from Vietnamese marine organisms.
