Project's information

Project's title The causes, occurring frequencyof heavy rain weather caused floods in relation to morphological terrain of Southern Central Region of Vietnam, warning, proposing mitigation measures to prevent natural disasters
Research hosting institution Institute of Geography
Project leader’s name Ass.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Khanh Van
Project duration 01/01/2012 - 01/01/2013
Project’s budget 500 millions Vietnam dong
Classify Excellent
Goal and objectives of the project

- Identify the causes and occurring frequency of heavy rain weather caused floodsin the South Central Region, the period 1986 - 2010
- Determine the role of topography in formation of the heavy rains.
- Heavy rain weather warning and propose mitigation measures to prevent damage.

Main results

Theoretical results:Using the traditional and interdisciplinary approach of Geography, cause, frequency of occurrence of heavy rains in relation to morphological terrain conditions on 02 different areas were identified clearly
Applied results: Applications in meteorological, hydrological forecasting; risk management and disaster prevention in local areas of SouthCentral Region (SCR).

Novelty and actuality and scientific meaningfulness of the results

Affirming new; thenecessary incorporate research directions: geography - geomorphology terrain, climate and statistical synoptic classification in forecasting the potential heavy rain areas of the SCR.
