• Scientific results
- Research contents of the project address comprehensive, complex and emergent issues, which are scientifically and practically valuable. Different traditional and new methodologies have been used for analysis and assessment to identify factors contributing to natural disasters and to assess status of and identify causes of natural disasters: floods, coastal and estuarine erosion in Quang Binh and Quang Tri provinces.
- Factors contributing to natural disasters floods, coastal and estuarine erosion in Quang Binh and Quang Tri provinces have been analyzed. Heavy and unprecedented floods especially the flood occurred in 2007 in the Gianh river basin, coastal and estuarine erosion in Quang Binh and Quang Tri provinces have been evaluated. And the status assessment of coastal and estuarine erosion occurred in Quang Binh and Quang Tri provinces especially in Hieu and Thach Han rivers in Quang Tri province has been also completed.
- Causes of natural disasters: floods, coastal and estuarine erosion in Quang Binh and Quang Tri have been identified, which are internal and external causes and human impacts. Then tangible, intangible and overall solutions to prevent and mitigate natural disasters: floods, coastal and estuarine erosion in Quang Binh and Quang Tri provinces have been identified.
- As a result of the project, series of data have been established, including data on floods and coastal and marine erosion in Quang Binh and Quang Tri an 03 maps on flooding and soil erosion at scale 1:100,000 and 02 at scale 1: 25,000. All data has been updated and recorded by software using GIS.
• Capacity building
The capacity of the project staff has been improved in term of knowledge and skills concerning approaches, observation, identifying causes of natural disasters and solutions to prevent, mitigate and manage natural disasters. |
