Research hosting institution Institute of Ecology and Biological Resources
Project leader’s name Le Xuan Canh
Project duration 01/01/2008 - 01/01/2009
Project’s budget 600 million VND
Classify Excellent
Goal and objectives of the project

- Building DNA databases for wildlife species and populations of mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians which are rare, endangered and stated in the Decree of 32/2006 / ND-CP of the Government.
- Building genetic information and other information database for the rare species.
- Creating a Standard Operating Procedure to identification of some animal species to control the wildlife trading.
- Collecting, building and storing the specimen for subsequent genetic studies of rare wildlife species and populations.
- Improving research capacity on evolutionary conservation of genetic diversity for researchers.

Main results

Theoretical results:
- Set of DNA sequences data, rare wildlife species database, including evolutionary relationships, classification and genetic diversity of some species.
- Forming a set of samples for genetic studies of rare wildlife species in Vietnam.
Applied results:
- Standard operating procedure to idenfication for rare wildlife species groups, including procedure for specimens which isn’t stored in standard conditions.

Novelty and actuality and scientific meaningfulness of the results

The DNA database using as barcoding for rare animal species stated in Decree No.32 (2006) and the Vietnam Red Book (2007).
