Project's information

Project's title Investigation, evaluation and proposal of application type of exploiting and processing technology of mineral resources at Vietnam-China border areas
Research hosting institution Institute of Materials Science
Project leader’s name Associate Professor Dr. Senior researcher Nguyen Xuan Tang
Project duration 01/01/2010 - 01/01/2012
Project’s budget 500,000,000 VND
Classify Medium
Goal and objectives of the project

- Implementing survey to assess and evaluate the status of mining in order to choose metallic minerals and industrial minerals.
- Proposing optimal technology for mining projects as well as mineral processing technology for medium and small-size mines

Main results

In terms of science:
- Have statistics, systematization and potential integrated assessments of 135 metallic mineral deposits and 42 industrial mineral mines in 3 provinces of northwestern Vietnam. Those provinces are next to China's border including Dien Bien, Lai Chau and Lao Cai province. In all mines mentioned above, more than 50% of them have been predicted, evaluated, and categorized by different levels.
- Investigate and assess the status of mining and mineral processing of 41 mineral areas, in which there are 34 metallic minerals and 07 industrial minerals.
In terms of application:
Based on the analysis and evaluation of the status and the technology implementation of active mineral areas, the project has proposed 10 technology projects (4 mining technologies and 6 selecting technologies). Those technology projects can be applied in order to mine and select reasonably metallic minerals and industrial minerals at medium and small-size mines or at other areas having similar conditions.

Novelty and actuality and scientific meaningfulness of the results

It is the first time that metallic minerals and industrial minerals have been inventoried, analyzed and posted on 1/200.000 rate maps, which can be used as references/ documentation for the studies of mineral resources.
In addition, the project has proposed some technology for mining and mineral processing that can be applied for the mines in the project area
