Goal and objectives of the project
  • Design and manufacture portable X-ray fluorescence spectrometer using the detector cooled by Peltier battery for fast analyzing constituent of precious metals. Associating with Lab. of physico - chemical parameters & reference materials of VMI for testing, evaluating confidence, precision and stability of the equipment by using the national references of gold.
  • Base on the results of evaluating the quality of the equipment, the discussion with VMI to build the reference method and process for hallmarking jewellery; a pilot manufacturing the equipment for supplying the good quality controller in central and regional offices.
Main results

a) In scientific and technological fields

  • Finding out applicable process for producing the portable X-ray fluorescence spectrometer using X-ray detector cooled by Peltier battery and radioactive isotope or small X-ray tube as exciting source with compact, reliable structure and very easy to use.
  • The achievement of successful fabricating the power suplly for X ray detector with a function of stability temperature of Peltier baterry.
  • Building the process for quantitavive analyzing precious alloys with many component.

b) In applied fields

  • The equipment was shown at some meeting and the international techmart Vietnam 2012 organized by Science and Technology Minister. It was awarded a Gold Cup at the International Techmart Vietnam 2012 in Hanoi.
  • The equipment was tested at some gold shops and few of them have contracted for supply.
  • The first item was supplied to Branch for Standard, Metrology and Quanlity of Soc Trang Province.  
Novelty and actuality and scientific meaningfulness of the results
  • The first time in Vietnam, the portable X ray fluorescence spectrometer used X ray detector cooled by Peltier battery was manufactured for quick analysis of precious metals. This equipment is suitable for jewellery quality controller of SMQ - offices. These results help us to fabricate the modern analytical equipment in Vietnam ourselves.
  • Giving fast, acceptable process for elemental quantitative analysis of precious alloys including: Au, Ag, Ni, Cu, Zn, Pd, Rh, Pt, Pb and As elements.
