Goal and objectives of the project
  • Clarify the characteristics and rule of sediment distribution on the study area.
  • Determine the tectonical structure and the thickness of the sediment layer.
  • Establish the sketch map for low density sediment disttribution and verify the petroleum potential regions for petroleum investigating and explorating on the continental shelf and the Deep East Sea as well.
Main results

Theoretical results

  • Quantitative evaluation for the depth of sediment base at scale 1:1.000.000 on the study area
  • The functions of experimental density related with seismic velocity and borehole depth express the distribution of low, high and average density of sediment on the study area.

Applied results

  • The study methodology could be applied in other areas on the Vietnam continental shelf and adjacent.
  • The study results could be used as approaching information for petroleum investigating and explorating.
Novelty and actuality and scientific meaningfulness of the results
  • Supply information about sediment thickness covering the study area.
  • Present an image of sediment density distribution for a large area according to gravity data.
  • Establish a number of density depened functions with geophysical data.
  • Conclude approaching information for petroleum investigating and explorating.

Recommendations

Updating the up-to-date geology-geophygical database, carry on large-scale geophysical surveys on continental region, conduct the deep boreholes in order to check the published sediment thickness and density. Continue the more detail studies within the Project direction.
