Goal and objectives of the project

Goal:

  • To continue effort to provide support to the conservation of plants of Cuc Phuong National Park, initiated and performed under the Vietnam-Laos ICBG Program, 1998-2010;
  • To perform DNA sequencing of plants at risk, presently being studied and conserved in the TPRC;
  • To compile DNA sequence data to support taxonomic research of plants of Cuc Phuong National Park, and of Vietnam.

Objectives:

  • Collect specimens of 2-3 species of Stephania and 1-2 species of Anoectochilus in Cuc Phuong National Park;
  • Identify and design appropriate PCR primers for the amplification of specific DNA regions;
  • Identify 1-2 specific DNA regions that can use as genetic markers for classification and conservation of Stephania and Anoectochilus species.
Main results
- Về khoa học:
Đã xây dựng được các cặp mồi phù hợp để khuếch đại các vùng DNA đặc trưng trong phân loại học phân tử một số loài nghiên cứu thuộc chi Bình vôi và Lan Kim tuyến;

Theoretical results:

  • Identified and designed 4 pairs of primers for the amplification of DNA markers from selected species within Stephania and Anoectochilus;
  • Amplified and sequenced specific DNA regions including ITS, MatK, TrnL of Stephania and Anoectochilus species collected from Cuc Phuong National Park.

Applied results: These DNA markers can be used to identify plant specimens and support the conservation of Stephania and Anoectochilus species.

Novelty and actuality and scientific meaningfulness of the results

DNA finger printing of some plant species at risk at Cuc Phuong national park is useful both in the theoretical and applied aspects. Results of this study are not only supported plant classification but also contributed to the conservation of rare, threatened and endangered Stephania and Anoectochilus species.

Products of the project
  • Scientific papers in referred journals (list): completed sequences of ITS, Matk, TrnL regions of Stephania and Anoectochilus species in GENBANK;
  • Technological products (describe in details: technical characteristics, place): Specific pairs of primers; DNA and PCR products are stored at Applied DNA Technology Laboratory, Institute of Biotechnology.
