• To clarify the basement structure and the current tectonic-geodynamic activities of the Mekong delta region.
• To clarify the role as well as influence of the tectonic movement to the Mekong delta caused by sea level rise.
• To direct the strategic policy on the optimal territorry use in order to adapt to the change of environmental condition of the region.

• Sientific significance: The results of the Project are qualitative, helping people to have a better understanding of the nature of the Mekong delta as well as its development in Holocene-Recent period. As a result, it is able to give out the appropriate forcast for different subjects in the climate change condition.
• Application significance: scientific evaluation of the the history of sea-level change and its tendency in  the future, serving basis for strugling with the risks of sea level rise.

• The notches in the limestone hills + 4.5 m of the Ha Tien area must be formed at  MIS 5e period, about 130,115 years BP.
• The sedimentation rate at the foot of the Mekong delta is approximately equal rate of sea level rise during last 100 years; this is the reason why the out boundary of the delta remained unchanged during this period.
