Goal and objectives of the project

To study methods and algorithms of determining and controlling satellite movement and satellite attitude by mathematical modeling and dynamics analysis; To development simulation softwares for satelite movement monitoring and satelite attitude control; To design and integrate a semi-physical simulation system for ADCS module (Attitude Determination and Control Systems) of small satellites in low-earth orbits; To approach to new methods of designing the ADCS system for small satellites in order to use these results in research, training and applications.

Main results

Theoretical results: The research project studied in a systematic way on the scientific and technological bases of the ADCS module for small satellites of Earth observation and the methods of modeling and simulation used in analyzing and designing of this module. In particular, some algorithms and softwares for determining and controlling the trajectory and the attitude of small satellites in low-earth orbits have been developed and the technological process of  manufacturing and integration of the ADCS semi-physical simulation system has been learned and mastered. This is the content of scientific research and high technology, which has been implemented so far for the first time in Vietnam.

Technological results: The projects has developed successfully 2 simulation softwares based on MATLAB/Simulink tool (the software for monitoring and adjusting satellite orbits and the software for determining and controlling satellite attitude in 3 degrees of freedom), which have interfaces to input data  and display outputs in the form 2D or 3D graphs. The project has designed, manufactured and upgraded a device of ADCS semi-physical simulation based on the air-bearing structure (ADCS air-bearing simulator) which satisfies basically all technical characteristics required.

Training results: The project has completed two book’s manuscripts devoted to theory of determination and control of satellite orbits and attitudes which can be used for  undergraduate and graduate students. In addition, the project has also participated in training 2 masters and 3 graduates in the fields of research related to the project’s topic.

Recommendations

Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology and Ministry of Science and Technology should continue investment for research on determination and control of satellite orbits and satellite attitudes. In particular, it is meaningful to support financially a further project on upgrading the existing ADCS simulator and bringing it to the permanent service of training and scientific research.
