Goal and objectives of the project |
- Capacity building, optimizing conditions for:
- Facilities: transgenic analysis laboratory, greenhouse and protected experimental field for transgenic crops
- Technical and skill improvement: transgene identification protocols, biosafety and food safe assessment, molecular biology, biochemical and genetic analysis (for example, transgene flowing via pollen dispersal…)
- Training human resources: by short-term courses and advanced laboratory visits.
- Participating in regulatory document preparation on research and application of transgenic crops, guidelines for biosafety, food safety and environment.
- Step by step strengthening testing protocol and expanding the production of transgenic crops based on the modeling PRSV resistant papaya.

Main results |
Scientific aspects:
- Increase in fourteen laboratory equipments for transgene analysis, including molecular, biosafety, food safety and environment at IBT, Hanoi
- Building a system of protected greenhouse for transgenic crop testing, satisfying the requirements of biosafety, environmental safety, in accordance with climatic conditions in Vietnam
- Building five methods (Physiology of antibiotic resistance test, biochemical – immunological analysis, molecular biological analysis, test transgenic crops in greenhouse and breeding to test transgenic crops) to identify and assessment of transgenic crops from the laboratory scale to greenhouse for those crops such as rice, cotton, papaya with resistance transgene of deep, drought, salinity…
- Building the model of conducting field trails, such as transgenic papaya
- Received and evaluated GMO of rice which is grown on Vietnam rice-growing plains for companies (Generic, Harpoon) before being exported abroad, and the foreign accepted
- Training qualified human resources for testing and evaluation of transgenic plants as well as the deployment of field trials of transgenic crops to ensure biosafety and the environmental safety
- Participate in the formulation of legal documents on the research and application of transgenic plants; the guidelines review biosafety, food safety and environmental safety of transgenic crops. Organization of the 01 seminars and 01 workshops on issues related to the application of transgenic plants.
Applicable results: After six years of implementation, the project have had many practically applications, specially the project’s equipment, methods of transgenic plants analysis can be used for biosafety and food safety analysis and evaluation of transgenic products which is created or imported into Vietnam before using in the market. |

Experimental Station in Co Nhue, Tu Liem, Ha noi; Phu tho and Tam dao, Vinh Phuc. |
Recommendations |
- The project have continued funding support in order to application deployment model testing transgenic papaya field in subjects other transgenic crops such as rice, insect resistant transgenic cotton and assess the environmental safety.
- We are clue of transgenic plants analysis and evaluation when the managing agency may request.
- After the acceptance of ministerial-level, the devices and greenhouses are converted into fixed assets and are managed by Institute of Biotechnology.
