Goal and objectives of the project

The creating Cotton leaf roll dwarf virus resistant transgenic cotton.

Main results

Scientific aspects:

  • Transformation and regeneration protocols have been developed for model plants such as Gossypium L. Coker310 and SSR60.
  • The 615 nucleotides of CP gene and 281 nucleotides of RdDp gene of CLRDV Nhaho isolate have been cloned and sequenced.
  • The two RNAi constructs have been planned, including CLRDV-CPi, and CLRDV-RdRpi.
  • 31/50 (62%) transgenic cotton T0 lines have been generated by using above mentioned protocols and RNAi constructs and the RNAi genes in these transgenic lines were tested by PCR.
  • Using the virus artificial infection method transgenic lines were tested for virus disease resistance. The results showed that 60% (3/5) transgenic lines are resistant to CLRDV.

Applicable  results: To discuss with Research institute of Cotton and Agriculture development Nhaho in order to make government project, development this project’s results and creating Cotton leaf roll dwarf virus resistant transgenic cotton.

Novelty and actuality and scientific meaningfulness of the results

For the first time in Vietnam RNA interference technology is successfully applied for development of virus resistant transgenic cotton.

Research region

Research institute of Cotton and Agriculture development Nhaho.

Recommendations
  • Transformation and regeneration protocols of cotton can been transfer or using for researches transgenic cotton cultivars in Vietnam.
  • Continue screening and evaluation transgenic cotton lines, which are resistant CLRDV in order to making resistance cultivar.
