FUNCTIONS AND TASKS
Functions: Vietnam National Space Center (VNSC) has the functions of research and development, technology applications, and development of high quality human resource in space science and technology.

Tasks :

-    Receive, implement, manage, and make use of the Vietnam Space Center project funded by Japan ODA, with following specified works:
+   Develop high quality human resources in space technology;
+    Research and develop satellites;
+   Operate Vietnam’s earth observation satellites;
+    Acquire, store and process data, serving satellite imagery applications and space technology application;
-    Perform national duties in research, development, application and transfer of space science and technology;
-   Build up and carry on international cooperative projects in space technology;
-    Raise awareness and bring knowledge to the majority of the population about the importance of space technology benefiting socioeconomic development and security and defense;
-    Train and develop high qualified personnel in space science and technology and other related fields;
-    Create services related to space science and technology and other relevant fields;
-    International cooperation in space technology and other related fields;
-    Organizational and staff management in accordance with State and Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology regulations;
-   Financial and assets management in accordance with State and Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology regulations;
-   Perform other duties assigned by President of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology;

ACTIVITIES

- Space technology research and development, technology applications, and development of high quality human resource in space science and technology;

- International cooperation runs along with the Center’s missions;

ACHIEVEMENTS

- Vietnam National Space Center, carrying the functions of research and development, technology applications, and development of high quality human resource in space science and technology, in recent years, its science researches, especially satellite researches have been playing an important role in the country’s development roadmap.
- Particularly on November 19, 2013, the tiny PicoDragon satellite made by Vietnam National Space Center engineers marked the first “Made in Vietnam” satellite successfully operated on orbit.
- On January 18, 2019, MicroDragon, the satellite made by Vietnam National Space Center engineers who were sent to Japan for their masters, was successfully launched into space from Japan. This has marked an important milestone on the plan to master earth observation and communications satellites technologies, serving commercial uses.
- On January 21, 2019, 3 days after the satellite was launched into orbit, Prime Minister He. Nguyen Xuan Phuc had a praise meeting with the MicroDragon team for their efforts.
- On March 5, 2019, Vietnam National Space Center was honored to receive a Certificate of Merit from Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology President for its success in research, development and operation of MicroDragon (accordance to Decision No. 259/QĐ-VHL dated March 5, 2019).
- “Satellite made by Vietnamese engineers successfully launched into orbit” has been chosen by Ministry of Science and Technology as 1 of the Top ten science and technology events of 2019
- On November 13, 2020, the Vietnam Space Center received the Certificate of Merit from the Prime Minister for outstanding achievements in studying and following Ho Chi Minh's moral thought and style (according to Decision No. No. 1807/QD-TTg dated 13/11/2020).
- On July 2, 2021, the Vietnam Space Center received the Certificate of Merit from the Prime Minister for its achievements in research and development of space science and technology, contributing to the cause of building a national socialism and defense (according to Decision No. 1051/QD-TTg dated July 2, 2021).
- On November 9, 2021, the NanoDragon satellite, designed and manufactured by officials of Vietnam Space Center, was successfully launched into orbit by Japan's Epsilon No. 5 rocket.

On November 9, 2021 at 7:55 am, Japan's Epsilon 5 rocket successfully launched and put Vietnam's NanoDragon satellite into orbit
