INSTITUTE OF APPLIED MATERIALS SCIENCE (IAMS)

-    Functions:

• Carry out the fundamental research in the field of material science and technology; Research, develop, implement, and apply new technologies, new materials in the manufacturing production and life; Consulting in the construction of material science and technology, pharmaceutical chemistry.
• To be the focal point of the postgraduate education in chemistry and material for Graduate University of Sciences and Technology-Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology.
• Provide the consulting services and scientific evaluation in the fields of Chemistry- Material- Biopharmacy
• Investigate, study the biodiversity and tropical biodiversity resources, specific ecosystems in the South, training researchers on ecology, biological resources, and other related fields.

-    Tasks:

• Perform fundamental research and basic scientific research ranging in these fields: material and nanotechnology, inorganic material, organic material, catalytic material, pharmaceutical material, photochemical material, petrol additive material, fuels, eco-friendly material, material for environmental remediation, advanced material to combat climate change, sea, island, aromatherapy, and bioactive compound.
• Conduct basic scientific research and manufacturing technology for making the high value production from the natural resources.
• Implementing the scientific results and apply the new technology in material science and other related fields.
• Manufacture, do business, transfer technology in the field of chemistry, medicine and pharmacy, eco-friendly material, material for environmental remediation, advanced material to combat climate change, sea, island, and other fields in accordance with legal provisions.
• Build up international cooperation in the field of applied material science and other related fields.
• Investigate, study on structures and functions of ecosystems, individual ecology, population ecology and human ecology.
• Study on fauna, flora, and fungi in Southern provinces; discovery, evaluation and proposal of recovery measures, development of high threatened plants, animals, fungi, and genomic protection.
• Explore the impacts of climate change on biodiversity, offer the proposal to reduce and to respond to climate change
• Research, evaluate the terrestrial bio-resources, watershed ecosystems, propone the management and the use of ecosystems and bio-resources in the sustainable strategy.
• Research and determine the sensitive ecosystems, ecological forecasting, offer the logical using proposal, ecosystem renovation and restoration.
• Improve education and awareness about biodiversity and sustainable development.
• Do scientific and technological services in the field of applied material science, ecological science, bio-resources and other related fields (participate in counseling service, counterargument, assessment in scientific and technological scheme and programs related to research fields of Institute, machine tool service designing)
• Train high quality human resources for science and technology in applied material science, ecological science and other related fields.
• Build up international cooperation on ecological and bio- resources.
• Manage and employ officials and employees of the Institute in accordance with the regulations of the Government and the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology.
• Manage finance and assets of the Institute in accordance with the regulation of the Government.
• Perform other duties assigned by the President of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology.
