Functions

Fundamental research and survey; development of technology and training of highly qualified human resources in the tropical technology and other related fields.

Tasks
  • Fundamental researching and assessing on the factors of the tropically environmental condition in Vietnam;
  • Studying the kinetic mechanism of impacts of the Vietnam tropical environment on materials and technical equipment;
  • Fabrication and protection for materials, components and equipment using in tropical climate condition;
  • Compiling standards for testing and using materials and equipment;
  • Training high quality human resources in the field of tropical technology, chemistry, materials science and others;
  • International cooperation in the fields of tropical technology, chemistry, materials science and others;
  • Consulting and technological transfer;

ACTIVITIES
  • Main activities: Natural exposure of different samples at atmospheric tropical testing stations in Halong (Quangninh), Nhatrang (Khanhhoa) and Donghoi (Quangbinh); carrying-out R&D projects of inorganic metallic and organic protective materials; plastics, polymer blend and composite materials, electric and electronic technique; education and training (graduate master and PhD); international scientific cooperation with colleagues in foreign universities and institutes.
 
ACHIEVEMENTS

+ Setting data, bank and technical climate atlas for the corrosion and protection of materials.
+ 01 European patent, 08 Vietnam Patents, 10 Vietnam utility solution certificates and 08 Vietnam copyright certificates.
+ 250 international papers, 1300 national papers, 15 monographs and 12 curriculums.
+ Successfully organizing and co-organizing many International workshops and conference in Hanoi, such as International workshop on Marine plastic pollution in Vietnam: Current situation & solution (November 29-30th, 2019), The 6th Asian Symposium on Advanced Materials: Chemistry, Physics & Biomedicine of Functional and Novel Materials Asian symposium September, 7-30th, 2017), series of International workshops (1st, 2nd and 3rd in 2012, 2015 and 2018, respectively) on Corrosion and Protection of Materials.

Performing many application activities in the fields:

  • Electricity, telecommunications, energy industry: Raw materials for manufacturing weather-resistant electric cable sheath; flame retardant materials, surge arresters; insulation coatings for engines, motors and transformers.
  • Transport: Ship anti-collision pads, elastic pads, plastic isolators and corails, specialized protective coatings for railroad cars.
  • Petroleum industry: Paints, protective coatings for tanks, pipes...
  • Automobile industry: Electro-plating and inorganic coatings.
  • Irrigation and Agriculture: Coatings for valves of irrigation works
