| | FUNCTIONS AND TASKS | | Functions: Fundamental research, technology development, service provision and training of highly qualified personnel in the fields of biology, chemistry, the environment and other areas. Tasks: 1. Study on the Fauna and Flora of Highland area to create a scientific basis for the rational use and protection of biological resources.
2. Research problems in science and technology in the fields of biology: genetic engineering, animal cell technology, the plant cell technology, microbiotechnology, fungi technology and other relevant fields.
3. Study of biologically active substances from plants and animals, semi-synthesis of compounds with high biological activity for the pharmaceutical, cosmetical, agricultural fields.
4. Research and application of new technologies, advanced technologies in the field of prevention and treatment of environmental pollution for sustainable development in Vietnam.
5. Organize the establishment and management of specimen collection according to national standards, educate and provide interpretation about conservation of the natural environment.
6. Provide high scientific and technological services in the field of biology and other related field.
7. Train high qualified human resources in the field of biology and other related fields.
8. International cooperation in the field of biology and other related fields.
9. Manage the personnel and organizational activities as assigned by the State and VAST.
10. Management of infrastructure, facilities and financial resources as regulated by the State and VAST.

| ACTIVITIES |
- Application of plant cell biotechnology in micropropagating ornament and medicinal plants.
- Survey and study of the biological resources of Tay Nguyen area of Vietnam in order to assess the distribution, density and current state of the species of high scientific and economic value.
- Propose and carry out the measures to protect biodiversity, rehabilitate and develop rare and valuable species, sore specimens of plants and animals, protect the genetic resources of plant, fungi and microorganisms.
- Culturing and developing economically valuable microbial and mushroom species. Building the microbial and micro-fungal culture collections.
- Screening of interesting bioactive compounds from plants collected in Tay Nguyen area. Transformation of natural compounds into potential derivatives for the pharmaceutical industry.
- Collecting, storing, and displaying specimen collections of animal, plants, and fungi of Tay Nguyen area.

| ACHIEVEMENTS |
- Annually perform from 10 to 12 research projects at all levels, from which many new species and compounds have been discovered. Supply of seedlings for planting over 30,000 local vegetables, flowers of all kinds.
- Training high-quality scientific and technological human resources (PhD, master, ...) in the field of biology and chemistry.
- Biological Museum welcomed more than 50,000 annual visitors for study and scientific research.
- Annually publish articles in prestigious international journals (ISI) and national journals.
