Institute of Geological Sicences was established on February 28 1976 as the Institute of Earth Sciences by the Director of Vietnam Academy of Science through the Decision No. 92/QĐ.
Institute of Earth Sciences has been known as Institute of Geological Sicences arcording to Decree 2441 dated December 22 1989 and issued by Council of Minister.
Institute of Geological Sicences was a research organization of Center for Science and Technology National, now known as Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology,  according to Decision No. 119/KHCNQG on July 10 1993 signed by the Dricetor Nguyen Van Hieu.
Institute of Geological Sicences was directly under Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology according to Decision No. 38/QĐ-VHL on February 19 2013 signed by President of  Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology.
Institute of Geological Sicences is operated under Decision No. 302/QĐ-VHL dated on February 28 2013 and signed by President of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology.

FUNCTIONS AND TASKS

Functions:

  • Research basically and develop technology, scientific service, educate high quality human resources in geosciences in accordance with Vietnamese regulatory laws.

Tasks:

  • Basically research on structural issue - driving force, material composition and history of the earth lithosphere;
  • Study, investigate, and evaluate geohazards and mitigation measures for the sustainable development objectives;
  • Study, investigate, and evaluate geological resources, mineral process technology, and reasonable solution for geological resource utilization;
  • Study, investigate, and evaluate issues of geoenvironment and measures for pollution prevention and mitigation;
  • Study on geotechnical issues;
  • Develop and perfect technology, enginering to improve efficiency of research and investigation on geology, geoenvironment, and geological resources;
  • Provide science and technology service in geological and related fields;
  • Educate high quality human resources in geological and related fields;
  • Cooperate worldwide in geological and related fields;
  • Manage organization and system; manage and employ institutional official and researcher in accordance with Vietnamese and Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology regulatory laws;
  • Manage institutional finance and possession in accordance with Vietnamese regulatory laws;
  • Implement assigned missions by President of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology.

ACHIEVEMENT

Institute of Geological sciences is the leading research agency, always a pioneer in the field of geological sciences in Vietnam. The Institute has developed a number of key research directions, international integration with highly qualified scientific staff on magmatic research - mineralization, research of modern movement of the earth's crust, ear study Geological variables.

The Institute has chaired the implementation of many excellent scientific and technological projects and projects at the State, Ministry, Provincial level and international cooperation under the Protocol. The research results of the projects and projects are not only of high scientific value in terms of contributing to the theoretical system of geological, mineral and natural sciences but also effectively applied to reality many aspects, contributing to socio-economic development in many regions across the country.

Institute of Geological sciences was formerly a training institution, now continues to participate in training for the Academy of Science and Technology. Significantly contributed to the training of highly qualified human resources in the field of Earth Sciences. The staff of the Institute actively participated in teaching and guiding graduate students and PhD students to other training institutions such as Hanoi Natural University, University of Mining and Geology, University of Natural Resources and Environment, Dai study Hue ...
