Project's information
| Project's title | Research on Landslide Types Under Extreme Rainfall Conditions in Northern and Central Vietnam |
| Project’s code | KHCBTĐ.02/24-25 |
| Research hosting institution | Institute of Earth Sciences |
| Project leader’s name | Dr. Pham Van Tien |
| Project duration | 01/01/2024 - 30/06/2026 |
| Classify | Grade B |
| Goal and objectives of the project | • To identify landslide types under extreme rainfall conditions in the mountainous regions of Northern and Central Vietnam
• To investigate the mechanisms and movement characteristics of rainfall-induced landslides in key areas of Northern and Central Vietnam |
| Main results | - Theoretical results:
+ The project clarify the characteristics of extreme rainfall events that trigger clustered landslides.
+ The project identifies and clarifies the formation conditions, initiation mechanisms, and movement characteristics of selected landslide types during rainfall-induced widespread landslide events.
- Applied results:
+ The project outcomes can be used for landslide identification and classification in order to the development of detailed landslide hazard and risk zoning maps.
+ Several appropriate response and mitigation measures are proposed, providing useful reference materials for practitioners and decision-makers. |
| Novelty and actuality and scientific meaningfulness of the results | The project proposes a classification of two landslide types that have not been clearly defined in previous studies in Vietnam, including debris avalanches and earth flow. |
| Products of the project |
- Technological products (describe in details: technical characteristics, place): Research and technological development outputs include three (03) scientific reports: • The mechanisms and driving forces of landslides induced by extreme rainfall. • The classification of landslide types under extreme rainfall conditions in key areas of the mountainous regions of Northern and Central Vietnam. • A report on appropriate landslide prevention and mitigation measures. - Other products (if applicable): 01 Master student graduated from Thuyloi University |
| Research area | The proposed classification of landslide types induced by extreme rainfall can be applied by research institutes, universities, and professional agencies responsible. |
