Goal and objectives of the project

Data on biology, chemical composition and potential bioactive of three species produceterminallyfloweringinflorescences belongs to the Zingiber (Gung boc da - Zingiber pellitum Gagnep., Gung la hep - Zingiber atroporphyreus Škorničk. & Q.B. Nguyễn và Gung hoa ru - Zingiber cardiocheilum Škorničk. & Q.B. Nguyễn). Proposal for conservation and sustainable use.

Main results
Theoretical results:
+ Data on biological and ecological characteristics, distribution of Zingiber pellitum Gagnep., Zingiber atroporphyreus Škorničk. & Q.B. Nguyễn and Zingiber cardiocheilum Škorničk. & Q.B. Nguyễn) at Binh Chau - Phuc Buu Nature Reserve, Xuan Son and Tam Dao National Park; proposal for conservation and sustainable use.
+ Data on chemical and activity of essential oils of 3 species: monoterpenes was main group of compounds in the oils of Zingiber atroporphyreus and Zingiber cardiocheilum accounting for 96.80% and 87.29%, respectively. In contrast, for Zingiber pellitum species, consisting mainly of sesquiterpene group, representing 61%. All three species have the ability to resist gram-negative and positive microorganisms and fungi.
+ Isolation of chemistry compounds of Zingiber pellitum species, nine compounds have been isolated, includes: vanillin; vanillalic acid; daucosterol; (+)-α-viniferine; meranzin hydrate, rhamnocitrin 3 -rhamnoside; (2S,4aS)-2-hydroxy-1,1,4a,7-tetramethyl-8-vinyl-2,3,4,4a,10,10a-hexahydrophenanthren-9(1H)-one and 2 newly discovered compounds named diarylheptanoids zingiberpyrans A and B. Among the isolated compounds, rhamnocitrin 3-rhamnoside showed the strongest inhibitory effect on the nitric oxide production (IC50 = 49,68±2,37μg/ml), A549, MCF-7, Hep3B while zingiberpyrans A and B showed weak inhibition.
- Applied results: The results of this study significantly enhance the comprehensive assessment of the value of Zingiber species known to produce terminally flowering inflorescences in Vietnam. This is the scientific basis for the conservation and sustainable development of health care products from these species.
Novelty and actuality and scientific meaningfulness of the results
+ Supplementary data on biology, ecology and proposal for conservation and sustainable use of three Zingiber species known to produce terminally flowering inflorescences.
+ The first study of the chemical composition of essential ois from Zingiber atroporphyreus and Z. cardiocheilum and the bioactive of oils from Zingiber atroporphyreus, Z. cardiocheilum and Z. pellitum species.
+ The first study of the chemical composition and the bioactive of Zingiber pellitum species. For the first time, compounds zingiberpyrans A and B were isolated in nature.
