Project's information
| Project's title | Geochemical Characteristics, Origin, and Mineralization of Lithium in the Ba Tơ Area, Quảng Ngãi, Vietnam |
| Project’s code | VAST05.02/19-20 |
| Research hosting institution | Institute of Geological Sciences |
| Project leader’s name | Tran Viet Anh |
| Project duration | 01/01/2022 - 31/12/2024 |
| Project’s budget | 600 million VND |
| Classify | Grade B |
| Goal and objectives of the project | - Clarify the geochemical characteristics and lithium mineralization in the Ba Tơ area, Quảng Ngãi.
- Determine the origin of lithium mineralization in the Ba Tơ area, Quảng Ngãi.
- Study the lithium mineralization conditions in the Ba Tơ area, Quảng Ngãi. |
| Main results | - The project has established a set of results on the petrology, geochemistry, and mineralogy of the Sa Huỳnh Complex granite as well as the pegmatite formations in the study area.
- Determine the U-Pb isotopic age of pegmatite in the study area.
- Determine the U, Pb, Nd, and Hf isotopic ratios of granite and pegmatite to identify their formation environment.
- Determine the crystallization temperature of pegmatite in the Lavi area.
- Develop a geological and mineral map of the study area at a 1:50,000 scale. |
| Novelty and actuality and scientific meaningfulness of the results | - Classify the LCT-type pegmatite formations containing lithium and associated minerals into four subgroups.
- The age results of pegmatite and granite in the area indicate that they are co-crystallized products.
- The use of isotopic ratios suggests that the pegmatite may have formed from a source different from granite, potentially involving a metamorphic process.
- The pegmatites crystallized under medium-temperature conditions.
- Based on the research results, it can be concluded that the ore-bearing pegmatites were formed through thermal metamorphism and are unlikely to have crystallized from acidic magma via fractional crystallization.
With these findings, the project's results can be used to guide the assessment of lithium ore potential. Additionally, the results can be utilized to direct the exploration of associated minerals as well as deep-seated minerals related to magmatic tectonic activities in the area. |
