Project's information
| Project's title | Study on species diversity of Lobophora genus (Dictyotaceae family) in the western coast of the Gulf of Tonkin |
| Project’s code | KHCBBI.01/22-24 |
| Research hosting institution | Institute of Marine Environment and Resources |
| Project leader’s name | Assoc. Dr. Dam Duc Tien |
| Project duration | 01/01/2022 - 31/12/2024 |
| Project’s budget | 1,500 million VND |
| Classify | Grade B |
| Goal and objectives of the project | Evaluate the species diversity of the genus Lobophora in the western coast of the Gulf of Tonkin based on morphological and molecular characteristics to supplement the list of seaweeds for Vietnam and the world. |
| Main results | - Theoretical results: 13 species were identified in the study area (previously only 1 species was identified). Of these, 3 species are new to Science (Lobophora. quangtriensis D. T. Dam, M. L. Nguyen et C. W. Vieira; L. tsengii D.Tien & Z.Sun and L. vietnamensis D. T. Dam, M. L. Nguyen et C. W. Vieira).
- Applied results: Detection of several lipid classes in some Lobophora species.
|
| Novelty and actuality and scientific meaningfulness of the results | - Adding 12 more species of Lobophora to the Vietnamese seaweed fauna, including 3 new species for science: Lobophora quangtriensis D. T. Dam, M. L. Nguyen et C. W. Vieira; L. tsengii D.Tien & Z.Sun and L. vietnamensis D. T. Dam, M. L. Nguyen et C. W. Vieira. |

| Recommendations | The diversity of the genus Thuy in Vietnam could be even higher if studied on a larger scale. In addition, this is a group of brown algae with many valuable and new biological active substances, so further research on these active substances should be conducted. |
