| Goal and objectives of the project | • Main Goals and objectives of the project
Develop a process for oil polluted treatment by Bioremediation in coastal tidal areas, using microorganisms capable of oil degradation and supplementing appropriate nutrients to improving treatment efficiency and ensuring ecological safety.
• Specific Goals and objectives of the project
- Develop a technological process for producing biological products to degrade oil and create biosurfactants from microorganisms to apply in treating oil-contaminated sand/sediment in coastal tidal areas.
- Develop a technological process for treating oil pollution in coastal tidal areas using the bioremediation method.
- Establish a demonstration model for treating oil pollution in coastal tidal areas using the bioremediation method. |
| Main results | - Theoretical results:
1. Environmental parameters and some groups of microorganisms were surveyed in the model building area
2. Complete the collection and maintain the activity of two mixtures of microbial strains (bacteria and yeast) that have capable of degrading oil and synthesizing biosurfactants.
3. Production process of biological oil-degrading products from bacteria and yeasts for application in treating oil pollution in coastal intertidal zone (supratidal and intertidal zones) was developed.
4. Process of treating oil pollution in coastal tidal zones (supratidal and intertidal zones) by bioremediation method was developed.
5. The effectiveness of using oil-degrading products from microorganisms was evaluated.
Applied results:
1. Production process of biological oil-degrading products from bacteria and yeasts for application in treating oil pollution in coastal intertidal zone (supratidal and intertidal zones)
2. Successfully built and operated models (21m2) to treat oil pollution in coastal tidal areas using bioremediation method in summer and winter.
3. Successfully built and operated models (200m2) to treat oil pollution in coastal tidal areas using bioremediation method in summer and winter. |
| Novelty and actuality and scientific meaningfulness of the results | After drifting ashore, oil often concentrates above the intertidal zone and then combines with the surface layers (sand or gravel) of the beach (above the lowest water level at low tide and below the highest water level at supratidal zone). Therefore, in addition to complete the technological process and model for oil-contaminated treatment in the supratidal zone, we are building a technological process and model for oil-contaminated treatment in the intertidal zone using the Bioremediation method. The construction of models in the intertidal zone to propose a treatment process is necessary and is a new point of the project, which is being carried out for the first time in Vietnam. The success of this task will contribute significantly to the field of applying research results for oil-contaminated treatment in coastal zone by bioremediation method to reduce environmental pollution and protect public health in coastal areas affected by oil spills. |
