Goal and objectives of the project

Research and develop an X-ray fluorescence spectrometer, apply fertilizer analysis and build a quantitative analysis process for nutrients: macronutrients P2O5, K2O, secondary components: MgO, SiO2, S, CaO in solid NPK mixed fertilizer. Develop an effective process for analyzing total N and SiO2 content using chemical methods. Sign up for a useful solution on fertilizer analysis, publish an article in a national scientific journal and train a master's degree.

Main results
- Technological results: The mission successfully upgraded VietSpace 5006 – 2020 X-ray fluorescence spectrometer system with high X–ray collection speed and application for inorganic fertilizer analysis. The device can be applied in many agricultural and industrial fields.
- Theoretical results: A process for analyzing the content of elements in fertilizers has been developed.
- Applied results: Analytical equipment and processes can be applied to state management of fertilizer quality; fertilizer production and trading enterprises; enterprises producing and trading agricultural products.
Novelty and actuality and scientific meaningfulness of the results
Equipment and procedures for X-ray fluorescence analysis are not yet included in international and national standards for fertilizer testing.

- Successfully upgraded VietSpace 5006 - 2020 X-ray fluorescence spectrometer system with a high X-ray collection speed of 250,000 pulses/second (5 times higher than before the upgrade) for inorganic fertilizer analysis applications. Researched, designed and manufactured sample processing and preparation equipment suitable for the spectrometer system.
- 01 procedure for quantitative analysis of total nutrients P2O5, K2O, MgO, SiO2, S, CaO and phosphorus insoluble in citrate by XRF method, solving the content of elements: Mg (0 ÷ 2,41); Si (0 ÷ 7.48); P (0 ÷ 323); S (0 ÷ 3.88); K (0 ÷ 4.64); Ca (0 ÷ 6.41) %, relative error is less than 5 %.
- 01 chemical analysis process to determine total Nitrogen and effective SiO2 content, measured on a UV-Vis photometer. Chemical methods also analyze the parameters P2O5, K2O, MgO, SiO2, S, CaO, to compare with test results from XRF methods and test results of the Quality Assurance and Testing Center 1 (Quatest 1), the agency designated to test fertilizers according to Decision No. 3098/QD-BVTV–KH, dated October 10, 2022 of the Plant Protection Department - Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

- Other products: 01 process for rapid and simultaneous analysis of elements in raw materials, on the production line of a multi-nutrient fertilizer - medium quantity NPK 5-10-3, by X-ray fluorescence method.
- Trained 01 master's student, defended a Master's thesis with the topic "Research on potassium analysis method in solid NPK mixed fertilizers based on X-ray fluorescence spectrometer".

Research region

- Applied address: X-ray fluorescence method has become the national standard TCVN 7055: 2002 and TCVN 7055: 2014, 2nd edition "gold and gold alloys - X-ray fluorescence method to determine gold content". For more than 30 years, the Institute of Materials Science - Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology has deployed nearly 100 machines systems operating in over 30 provinces and cities nationwide, including 10 machines produced by the Departments of Science and Technology. The Department of standards and quality measurement and the Market management Department of the provinces are used for state management of gold quality. The test method has been protected by useful solution No. 1526 "Standard sample set and method of analysis of precious metals used for jewelry", Decision No. 35832/QD-SHTT, dated June 13, 2017.
- Suggested address for application: Department of Standards, Metrology and Quality and Market Management Department of provinces carry out state management of fertilizer quality. Enterprises producing and trading fertilizers to check quality at each production stage, ensuring the quality of output fertilizer meets the design.

Recommendations

Procedure for quantitative analysis of total nutrients P2O5, K2O, MgO, SiO2, S, CaO and phosphorus insoluble in citrate by XRF method.  It is recommended that Institute of Sciences Materials proposed to the Plant Protection Department and Directorate for Standards Metrology and Quality for appraisal to convert into basic standards of the Institute of Materials Science - Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology.
