Goal and objectives of the project
To build a model of natural rubber processing wastewater treatment combined with energy recovery using expanded granular sludge bed (EGSB) in accordance with Vietnamese conditions, with the following objectives as follows:
- The COD treatment efficiency of EGSB is over 80% with organic loading rate (OLR) of over 10 kg COD/m3day;
- The gas generation coefficient is over 0.3 L/COD, the biogas will be used to burn for drying products;
- The model can be replicated to apply in natural rubber processing factories in Vietnam. 
Main results
- Theoretical results:
     + Did survey and evaluated the characteristics of rubber latex processing wastewater and the current status of treatment technology at some natural rubber processing factories in the North and North Central areas; 
     + Completed the technology for treatment of oragnic substances in natural rubber processing wastewater by EGSB combined with energy recovery in the laboratory. The technology achieved a stable treatment efficiency of over 80% in OLR of 7,8 ± 0,3 to 19,0 ± 0,6  kg COD/m3day;
   + Built a pilot and evaluated the effectiveness of pilot. The EGSB operated stably with a capacity of  19,2  0,26 m3/day with COD treatment efficiency of 81,6  0,81%  at OLR of 13,2  0,46 kg COD/m3day, the gas generation coefficient of  0,33   0,2 L/g COD.
- Applied results:
EGSB model has been installed and tested at Ha Tinh rubber processing factory, Ha Linh commune, Huong Khe District, Ha Tinh province. 
Novelty and actuality and scientific meaningfulness of the results

Sucessfully creating anaerobi granular sludge on EGSB equipment and perfecting the technology of treatment organic matter in natural rubber processing wastewater in the laboratory and in practice.
