Project leader’s name Vu Thi Thanh Tam
Project duration 01/01/2021 - 31/12/2022
Project’s budget 600 million VND
Classify Grade A
Goal and objectives of the project
- Determine the species diversity of predatory nematodes in order Mononchida and their roles in the nematode comunitites at the nature reserves in Lao Cai Province.
- Discovery new taxa for science and new records of predatory nematodes order Mononchida for nematode fauna in Vietnam.
Main results
- Theoretical results:
+ 21 species of predatory nematodes of the order Mononchida were determined in Lao Cai province, that belonging to 14 genera and 5 families. In which, new records for Vietnam nematode fauna include: (i) 1 family, Cobbonchidae Jairajpuri, 1969; (ii) two genera: Truxonchus Siddiqi, 1984 (family Anatonchidae) and Cobbonchus Andrássy, 1958 (family Cobbonchidae); (iii) 5 species are: Cobbonchus sp1; Jensenonchus sphagni (Brzeski, 1960) Loof & Winiszewska-Slipińska, 1993; Clarkus sheri (Mulvey, 1967) Jairajpuri, 1970; Parkellus menzeli (Loof & Winiszewska-Slipińska, 1993) Ahmad & Jairajpuri, 2010 and Parkellus sp1.; (iv) 3 species for new scientific records: Truxonchus quangi Vu, 2021; Iotonchus lotilabiatus Vu et al., 2021 and Coomansus batxatensis Vu, 2021.
+ The structure of nematode communities living in soil in Hoang Lien National Park, Bat Xat Nature Reserve and Hoang Lien-Van Ban Nature Reserve has been determined based on MI and PPI indexes.
+ Completed a set of specimens (100 permanent slides) nematodes in order of Mononchida, which were recorded in Lao Cai Province with full data of 21 species.
+ 16 DNA sequences including 18S and 28S of some Mononchid species were submitted in GenBank.
- Applied results: Predatory nematodes in order Mononchida are one of the objects that can be used in biological control of plant parasitic nematodes. The research results are important data to guide the group of species that can be used in biological control of plant parasitic nematodes on agricultural crops.
Novelty and actuality and scientific meaningfulness of the results
- Recorded many new species of predatory nematode in order Mononchida for nematode’s fauna in Vietnam and for science.
- The results of the project contribute to improve the values of biodiversity and conservation in the locality, as a scientific basis for the sustainable development of socio-economic tin the locality.
Products of the project
- Scientific papers in referred journals (list):

Research area

Results of the project will be added information on the diversity of free living predatory nematodes in order Mononchida at the Nature Reserves in Lao Cai Province.

Recommendations

The potential to discover new species in the order Mononchida is still opening. So, the project’s leader recommends that the similar research should be expanded in the other provinces.
