Goal and objectives of the project
Assessment of vascular plants diversity in Kim Hy Nature Reserve, Bac Kan province and propose a measure of conservation and sustainable utilization. Publishing new species for science, new recorded species for the flora of Vietnam.

Main results

- Theoretical results:
+ The flora of Kim Hy Nature Reserve harbours 1251 vascular plant species, 728 genera, 170 families, belonging to 6 phyla. Of which 313 species are listed in IUCN (2019), 65 species are listed in Vietnam Red Book (2007), 85 species are listed in The Government No 84/2021/ND-CP.
+ Discovery of 02 species new to science: Sporoxeia vietnamensis, Strobilanthes spathulatibracteata; 03 new record species: Rungia burmanica, Rungia sinothailandica, Strobilanthes lamiifolia.
- Applied results:
+ Development of a database on Microsoft Access to manage information (includes information of collection number, family, scientific name, collectors, date-collection, location, coordinates, elevation, color images) of 415 plant species in Kim Hy Nature Reserve, contributing to the management of plant diversity, and for other studies of conservation importance.
+ Documentation of the statistics of use value and plant species: In Kim Hy Nature Reserve, there are 973 valuable/ economically useful species, accounting for 77,78% of the species of flora in the area of research. In particular, the most valuable group is of medicinally important plants with 749 species.
+ The project explored the causes of biodiversity loss in Kim Hy Nature Reserve, Bac Kan province. Proposing 7 solutions groups, with some specific solutions for the conservation and sustainable development of biodiversity in Kim Hy Nature Reserve, Bac Kan province.

Novelty and actuality and scientific meaningfulness of the results

- Technological products
+ A checklist of vascular plant species in Kim Hy Nature Reserve was prepared.
+ Enrichment of HN Herbarium: Collection of 415 accessions was made, each number includes 03 specimens of vascular plant in Kim Hy Nature Reserve. Standard specimens was mounted on paper sizes of 28 x 42 cm, with full information about the specimens. All specimens were accessioned in HN herbarium.
+ Preparation of reports on plant conservative solution/ action plan in Kim Hy Nature Reserve. Preparation of 06 maps of conservation importance depicting distribution of endangered precious, and rare plant species, priority areas for conservation in Kim Hy Nature Reserve.
+ Preparation of a database on Microsoft Access to manage information (the database includes information of collection number, family, scientific name, collectors, date-collection, location, coordinates, elevation, color images or sample photos) of 415 plant species in Kim Hy Nature Reserve.
- Training: Supporting 02 PhD student.
Research region
Kim Hy Nature Reserve, Bac Kan province.
Recommendations
Continuatio of the investigation in the priority areas to study different populations / habitats of the threatened species and formulate strategies for conservation of rare and highly economic plants. Investigation of specific taxon groups, especially those distributed in niche habitats likes rugged terrains and mountainous areas.
