Goal and objectives of the project

(1) Construct cost of offshore wind power generation. (2) Construct the turbine’s power - electricity production costs characteristic for permanent magnet synchronous generators. (3) Construct turbine’s power - electricity production cost characteristic for superconducting synchronous generators and comparing with the characteristic curves of permanent magnet synchronous generators.

Main results

- Theoretical results: The cost of offshore wind power production is established, from which the impact of its components can be assessed as well as the influence of scientific and technological advancement in wind power.
Construct a curve for turbine’s power - cost of electricity production for a permanent magnet wind generator. This characteristic curve helps to determine the capacity of about 11 MW, to have the optimal electricity production cost.
Construct a curve of turbine’spower - electricity production costs for superconducting wind generators. The results show that superconducting technology significantly reduces electricity production costs, especially at high power range. The optimal nominal capacity is about 17 MW, but the number of cryocoolers is relatively large.
- Applied results:
The research is valuable to propose an appropriate nominal power (about 11 MW) for the permanent magnet synchronous wind generators in reducing offshore wind power production costs.

Novelty and actuality and scientific meaningfulness of the results

- Determine the optimal nominal power for wind generator technology using permanent magnet and super generator in reducing the cost of offshore wind power generation. Superconducting wind generators can reduce the energy costs by about 7% compared to the one by the permanent magnet wind generator.
- At the low nominal power range, using superconducting technology has no advantages due to the cost of the cooling system as well as the superconducting materials. However, at high nominal power, the advantage of light the weight generator greatly reduces the cost of energy by reducing the cost of the turbine’s tower and foundation.
